I'm working on a game where you are delving for magic mushrooms. When you eat a mushroom, you get a spell and forget any previous spell. You also become addicted to the mushrooms and start dying if you go a day without eating one.
I want spells to be randomly generated, like in Maze Rats, but I don't just want to rip off Maze Rats.
I made a generator that makes spell titles. And have considered having players just define each spell based on that. But I really think I want more guidance than that.
I have considered letting players choose or roll for the amount of words in the spell name, and each word equals a d6 that can be used in it's effect.
e.g. Spectral Floating Chain gives the player 3d6 to design the spell with
and Floating Chain gives the player 2d6.
But I don't know if I like it being that mechanically focused.
