So yes yes, hi hello, time to talk about games yes?


In this thread we will Gygaxian Democracy an entirely new game into existence.


In each post you may add a single element to the game: a single mechanic, a single setting detail, etc.


You may not post again until someone else has posted.


It will be an ugly, nightmare Frankenstein of a game.

I will start: All PCs are mole people adventuring in the world beneath the earth.

Combats are resolved in a single opposed d8 roll, modified by the sum total of each side's combat skill ranks + circumstance modifiers.

Molepeople collect shiny things because their eyesight is so bad (the glittering and glistening of metal objects in a modicum of light gives them immense pleasure).

A single "PC" is a group of related mole rats each contributing their skills

One moleperson in your PC-group dies every time your group takes a damage, so you don't have their skill anymore.

Instead of leveling up, you gain access to increasingly large and baroque mole-machines that dig/explore/fight alongside your mole-people. "Classes" determine which set of machines you've been approved to requisition by the Grand Low Bureau of Mole Engineering.

Sub terraria is filled with Lizard Folk, Pale Elves, Lavafish, and incursions from the hateful and violent Sun Touched.

All of the mole-people machines are powered by running wheel systems. To have a machine dig/explore/fight alongside you, you must assign enough mole-people from your PC group to run in the wheels.

The social organization of the mole people is a theocracy.

Their theocratic leaders are the Mothers, who never stop growing

The most sacred time for any sect is when their mother must shed her skull so she can grow a larger one to accommodate her ever expanding brain. The mothers are terribly vulnerable during this time.

The dice pools are all about matching numbers. Doubles triples quadruples etc. Unity is our strength!

  • Incest is the death of art. If our only artistic input is RPGs, then all we can do is remix ideas that have already been made gameable by someone else. (Note: this can clearly be abused so like don't or you might just die anyways). You may test Standing Tank Programming <something involving initiative or as dodging skill?> as well as to have your Standing Tank act on its own for a number of rounds equal your to Standing Tank Programming skill.

Or is formulaic, step by step, "this is how you do writing". It's horrible. There's probably a lot to hate in that article, and that's exactly why I like it. If I read something and there's no friction there's no movement.
